In-house poultry litter composting/pasteurization

With the continued rise in cost of new bedding along with the increase in grain prices many producers and integrators are looking for a environmentally friendly way to reduce expenses and gain a competitive edge. Many of these operations have turned to litter pasteurization or in-house windrow composting to accomplish these goals. Using a Brown Bear horizontal aerator they are able to stack litter into windrows starting the bio-logical aerobic composting breakdown process and generating the beneficial heat to clean or sterilize the litter. The litter windrower provides pulverization of the litter and volitization of moisture and ammonia which replaces traditional crust-outs or use of litter savers.  Producers and integrators can realize reduced or eliminated molds, bacteria, pathogens, ammonia levels, insect or darkling beetles, and litter moisture. Along with these reductions are the associated benefits of increased body weights and improved feed conversions, reduced mortality rates, and control of many common industry diseases such as LT, Coccidiosis, Dematitis, and enteritis. Environmental benefits include recycling the litter in-house which eliminates the uncontrollable spills associated with crust-outs, reduces the need for additional or larger litter sheds, and the reduced bacteria and pathogen loads make a more environmentally friendly product for land application with reduced run-off concerns.
